University of Ibadan Approves New Veterinary Nursing Degree Programme

The University of Ibadan has given the green light to a new Bachelor of Science (BSc) programme in Veterinary Nursing. The approval came on Thursday, 13 August 2026, during a meeting of the university's Development Committee.

The committee approved the programme, known as Paper DC2026B, with only small corrections needed. This follows an earlier approval by the university's Senate Curriculum Committee on 20 January 2026.

With this decision, the University of Ibadan becomes the first university in Nigeria to approve a BSc Veterinary Nursing programme for establishment.

Professor B. O. Olugasa, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, announced the news and thanked everyone who worked on the project. He said the achievement fulfils a long-held dream of Professor Adetunji, and praised the effort of past deans, the Veterinary Nursing Committee led by Professor M. O. Oyeyemi, the Faculty Curriculum Committee, and the Faculty Board of Veterinary Medicine.

He also thanked the Dean of Nursing, the Dean of Clinical Sciences at the College of Medicine, and the Head of the Department of Psychology for their support throughout the process.

Professor Olugasa congratulated members of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine on the achievement.
