XENOPHOBIA ENDEMIC
Until few years ago, I’m sure most of us had never come across the word Xenophobia, which would probably be because you don’t read the papers often.
This Foreign plague has been for about 23 years in which nothing less than 200 foreigners/immigrants have been victims of this plague which seems to be Endemic in South Africa.
In an investigation carried out by Sunday Vanguard, this attack firstly occurred in 1994 when South Africa had her first multi-racial election.
Since then, heavy attacks on immigrants have been recorded especially on the blacks in 1995, 1998, 2000, 2008, 2009, 2013, 2015 and 2017.
However, Year 2008 records one of the largest outbreaks of this with about 62 deaths noted.
It might however be of little consolation to you that Nigeria is not the only victim country of this onslaught as we have other countries like Somalia and Zimbabwe as the receiving end.
Of several reasons that could have sprouted such fear in the hearts of South Africans, it is assumed that these could have be a case of envy as most perpetrators of these crimes have often lamented about the displacement of natives from their historic places on farms and from jobs they are entitled to.
“If that’s the reason, I guess we should be expecting TECHNOPHOBIA soon in Nigeria.”
On this note, the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) called on the Federal Government to sanction the Republic of South Africa for Xenophobic attacks against Nigerians working and residing there.
SERAP reported that a letter dated February 24 has been forwarded to His Majesty, King Mswati III of Swaziland and Chairperson, Southern African Development Community (SADC) as regards the issue stating the persistent and longstanding xenophobic attacks on Nigerians.

NAIJA GISTS
CANCEL BIG BROTHER NAIJA
Big brother Naija is a reality TV show which involves 12 contestants living in an isolated house, competing for a large cash prize at the end of the show by avoiding being evicted by viewers.
What makes this show of special interest however is beyond the huge cash prize to walk home with or the 12 contestants but what the contestants get involved in which is publicly aired including obscene scenes of Nudity and Sex.
This has caught the attention of many Nigerians, however one Mr. Olusegun Olulade, Member representing Epe Constituency II in the Lagos State House of Assembly, decided to speak out concerning the issue calling out to the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed to reconsider the implications of allowing the Big Brother Naija Show.
He stated that the contents of this reality show is in clear opposition to the indigenous culture which President Muhammad Buhari is trying to promote and that it not only promotes obscenity and immorality but aslo corrupting the younger ones who are often exposed to this.
He thus called out to the Government to put an end to it through the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission.

At about 9pm on Friday, 23rd February, 2017, some anonymously sent texts were sent to different WhatsApp pages involving UI students stating the terrible incidence which had occurred about 30mins to the time the texts were received.
The text portrayed a Rape case which did not succeed but left the young lady victim dismembered by the culprits stating that she was cut with a cutlass and her belongings carted away.
Well-meaning UItes were quick to comment on these anonymous texts and further spread the rumor.
However, the Chairman of the Security Committee, SRC In person of Honourable Boniface James came out via the same social media the next day, 25th of February, 2017 stating that the previously spread texts was not totally true.
