BIOCHEMISTRY LECTURER LOSES TEMPER ON
DVM1 STUDENTS.
Just
as recently as last week, a Biochemistry lecturer was reported to have lost his
temper on the incoming DVM1 students, for claiming vehemently to another
Biochemistry lecturer that they were not taught a particular topic. This other
Biochemistry lecturer had been astonished to the point of going to confirm from
his other colleague, and then, this had led to an entire fiasco.
Even
after the scene, the students vehemently continued to state that they had not
been taught the topic, and even certain DVM2 students were prone to agree with them
after comparing the syllabus of what the biochemistry lecturer had taught them
with those of their junior colleagues.
HOW DO
VETERINARY STUDENTS SURVIVE?
If the technology of the world is moving
forward, Nigeria is probably still sightseeing and catching fun out of looking,
I mean just looking. The academic environment is so much far behind at adopting
technologies to ease the academia system and make lectures a marveling
experience for students, the who’s that, ought to take the lead. We lack technological
and technical thinking; the students are dumb to oppression and indifferent of
the certainty. The academic community is trying its very best at building
nonentities all in the name of respect and policies.
Great! Yes, great job is being done by the faculty
to improve the studentship experience of the Veterinary Medicine Students of
the First University in Nigeria. Improvements are geared towards a more
conducive life for Veterinary Students and Lecturers. New set of horses, a new
road tagged “Zad road” and the implementation and construction of inverter
system to ensure continuity of lectures even when the power holding company
decides to hold electric power or the work and maintenance of the institution
decides to maintain or conserve the electric supply.
Little wonder that many electric sockets where
made with the inverter system to ensure and encourage reading by students by
avoiding black out and flat batteries in their gadgets. These are little of the
many commendable and resourceful innovations of the faculty but to mention a
few.
Nevertheless, wonders happen and wonders shall
never end. An experience in a class made to realize that no one is a fountain
of knowledge, we continue to draw. Lecturer having issues with the use of this
beautiful innovation is a catastrophe. “I don’t want to see you with a phone in
my class”, alright, yes fine and accepted but, “I don’t want to see any phones
or gadgets at all, even those being charged”. Oh! I must confess how does this
distract the student or perhaps, affect the lecturer or the lecture at large.
But a student’s lament “we don’t have light in our hostels as we live off
campus and we have to read with this gadgets” gave me brought me an aftermath
astonishing shock by the reply of our lecturer ”is it a new thing not to have
light or are you not in Nigeria. Remove everything even power banks and any
gadget that it may”. It is overwhelming that myopic and oblivious decisions are
not far-fetched today. So please, how do Veterinary Students survive?
IS THIS JUSTICE? AVMS P.R.O SUSPENDED INDEFINITELY.
IS THIS JUSTICE? AVMS P.R.O SUSPENDED INDEFINITELY.
A.V.M.S PRO, Adeleke Ayomide
has been suspended by the senate indefinitely with allegations of disrespect to
the senate council and gross misconduct. What exactly did he do? How did he
disrespect the senate council? Just my thought anyways.
We believe strongly that it is thorough
injustice for him to have been suspended indefinitely,
he however admitted that the entire senate members have been displeased with
him for sometime and this made them lash
out at the last senate meeting in which somebody moved the motion for his
suspension and it was seconded by the senate president and all the while, the
AVMS president said nothing about the suspension, well none that we heard of (
no wonder most student claim his voice was louder when campaigning than when in
office).
However, MrAdeleke Ayomide, feeling guilty and
probably humble has written an apology letter to the council but we have not
heard any reply from them yet. Indefinite suspension is a little too harsh if
you ask me, however, we plead to the entire senate that the AVMS PRO be
reinstated soon.
UPROAR IN DVM II OVER CUSTOMISED
ATTENDANCE SHEET
It
shouldn't lead to a noise but it sure led to one. At about 8:15am on Wednesday,
June 27, 2018, the whole of the DVM 2 erupted into an heated argument when some
senators of the class and the Class Representative in support of the Assistant Classrep
mandated each member of the class to pay a certain amount (10 naira each) since
the authorities were not supplying photocopies for the customized attendance
sheets that all Veterinary Medical students were supposed to utilize for
declaring their presence in class.
What
was supposed to be a peaceful money collection went up in flames as some
members of the class declared their dissatisfaction with the payment. Some felt
that it was the duty of the class rep and assistant to continue to pay, as they
had signed up for the job, even as far as suggesting that they were not cut up for
the job if they didn't want to continue to fund it.
In
a spurt of anger, the class rep declared that the senators in support of the
movement stop collecting from the students. This led to the most of the class
shouting at him and with the noise that followed, two lecturers had to come in
to warn the students, and ironically, blamed the class rep for letting it
happen under his watch.
You
can be assured that this did not still end until the lecturer for the day
walked in.
DVMIII CLASS REPRESENTATIVE TENDERS
HIS RESIGNATION
The
class representative of DVMIII, Abiodun Samuel Oluwaponmile revealed his wish
to resign on Sunday, 1st July, 2018. This was made known by the letter of
resignation he sent to the Whatsapp group page of the class.
He
especially emphasized the fact that his resignation was not due to any personal
reasons rather because the position of the class leadership is not anyone's
inheritance, anyone can do it and can be given the opportunity to serve as the
class head.
On
the next day (2nd July, 2018), in an attempt to fill the leadership vacuum of
the class, an election was conducted to choose the next individual that will
assume the position of the class representative. This exercise then resulted in
voting in of Adeogun Adewunmi as the new class representative of DVMIII.
Abiodun
Oluwaponmile Samuel served the class for 3 years and 6 months.
