The
International Veterinary Students Association, IVSA, Ibadan chapter presents
her programme; World Rabies day 2018 themed- the role of one health initiative
to achieving rabies eradication in Nigeria by the year 2030 in
conjunction with National Veterinary Medical Association and Family Medicine
(UCH).
World Rabies Day is an international
awareness campaign coordinated by the Global Alliance for Rabies Control, a
non- profit organization whose headquarters
are found in the United States. It
has been endorsed by international human and veterinary health organizations.
The event takes place each year on September 28, the anniversary of the death
of Loius Pasteur who with collaboration of his colleagues, developed the first
efficacious rabies vaccine.
World rabies day is an awareness
programme about the impact of rabies on humans and animals, provide information
and advice on preventive measures in at-risk communities and villages in rural
settlements and as well to support advocacy for increased efforts in rabies
control.
The increased incidence of the rabid
dog bite and the consequential death of humans that has not been unnoticed by
the medical personnels calls for a more practical awareness programme as the
toll increases every year due to the viral nature of the disease which responds
to no treatment once infection has been established.
This year's event will hold on the 28th of September, 2018 at Trenchardhall
with a number of dignitaries in attendance as well as experts in the field of
virology with particular interest in the rabies virus. There's also a motive to
promote one health so as to combine effort in the awareness and prevention of
the disease. Every medical student is
invited to grace this occasion. Be a part of something great waiting to
happen!!!
