THERE ARE NO CASES OF BOVINE TUBERCULOSIS IN THE COUNTRY AT THE MOMENT, NCDC INFORMS THE PUBLIC

Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on July 15, 2019 released a press report refuting the rumor being spread on different social media platforms including Whatsapp and Facebook. According to the report, there had been a recent spread of a statement reportedly issued by the Director General of the World Health Organization stating that people should avoid eating beef and related products as a result of bovine tuberculosis found in cattle in the northern part of Nigeria.

Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) would like to state that this statement is completely false. The world health organization Nigeria country office has put out a release to strongly refute this statement. NCDC highlighted in the press report.

The report, signed by Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, the Director General of NCDC, informed the general public that there are no cases or concerns of bovine tuberculosis in the country at the moment and they are advised to ensure proper cooking and safe handling of meat and other food products.

AVMS UI HOLDS CONGRESS, DISHES OUT SUSPENSION

Association of Veterinary Medical Students (AVMS), University of Ibadan on July 17, 2019 held a congress that involved all students of the faculty to deliberate on issues pertinent to the association. During the congress, some individuals were appointed into different offices. It was also concluded that the faculty team coach should write an apology letter to the Congress for breaching an article in the AVMS Constitution stating that ―no programme shall be allowed to hold at the same time with the association‘s congress or programmes.‖ In addition, the sport secretary of the association was also queried for being absent from the congress and for conjoining to organize a football training along with the faculty team coach during the congress hours. Charged with ―negligence of duty,‖ the Editorial Board of the association was also suspended indefinitely for its perpetual absence from the congress and the previous ones.
