REACTION OF VET STUDENTS TO PROHIBITION OF COMMERCIAL MOTORCYCLE ON CAMPUS

It is no longer news that commercial motorcycle is now a thing of the past in the University of Ibadan. However, it is never a bad idea to find out opinions of Veterinary Medical Students about this germane issue as it seems to be the trending topic being discussed in the University community right now.

OLADEJI DEBORAH: On the case of removal of bike, it is not really a wise decision from my point of perspective. Though it has both pros and cons, it is obvious that the disadvantages outweigh the advantages.

ABEGUNDE TAIWO STEPHEN (DVM III):
It's a good development but it will take some time before the students get used to the system. However, it'll somehow be difficult for the tricycles to carry students to their destinations or wherever they are going on campus. The school authority should consider the advantages and disadvantages of the development to the students and the University Community at large.

KHAYRAH (DVM II):
It is not a good idea since motorcycles can only carry just one person to any place of destination but the Tricycle is like a semi-cab. With motorcycle, it is easier for one person to rush down to a particular destination on emergency. Students were never put in the plan and it seems the school management was just at the end, stressing the students and as well putting some other people in serious problems without any palliative measures to ease the bike draught.

AJIYO IFE:
It is annoying, stressful and I don't even know what they were thinking. Whatever it was, they did not consider our comfort as students. Things need to be put in place to compensate for the total removal of bikes. Many students have become late-comers and lecturers would not want to listen to their explanations. Students now have to trek long distances before getting to class. Cabs on their part would not go to some places bike would go to. So what are we talking about? Seriously, no matter what must have led to the removal of bike, students’ convenience was not a priority.

ALABI LUKMAN (DVM II): I think the prohibition is double-sided. It has its advantages and disadvantages but when all is summed up, it has more disadvantages. With tricycles, timeliness and door-to-door service is limited.

ONI OLUWADAMILOLA (DVM III): Well to me, it is not a good decision because both students and staffs benefit from motorcycles. Now with their cancellation, I wonder how the organized U.I. will able to coordinate easy and hitch free movement on campus, it really can't just work. What do you do when you are late for class and you need to catch up with time? Motorcycle is what we will definitely fall back to, because the tricycle system won't provide us with the convenience and speed motorcycles provide us with. We urge the management to tenaciously look into this matter and resort to what's best for University of Ibadan, which is bringing back the motorcycle transport system.

OLOWOOKERE PRECIOUS (DVM III): Concerning the prohibition, it is really going to make life on campus stressful and maybe slow. Many students have spoken against this measure as it makes transportation within school premises inconvenient.
