Manchester City Beats Liverpool 5-4 on Penalty Shoot-Out to Claim the Community Shield

Manchester City won the Community Shield for the second year in a row after a 5-4 penalty shoot-out defeat of Liverpool following a 1-1 draw at Wembley.

Liverpool and City who has been greatest rival in the English Premier League had to fight for the Community Shield at Wembley. The match ended in a 1-1 draw in the first 90minutes of the match as expected.

City were the best team in the first 45 minutes even after losing Bayern Munich-linked Leroy Sane to injury, with Raheem Sterling giving them a deserved half-time lead with his first goal against Liverpool in his 11th outing against his old club.

Jurgen Klopp's side improved after the break, though, and Joel Matip's leveller was just reward for their efforts, as City started to wilt in the warm conditions. The excellent Claudio Bravo made sure the game went to penalties and proved the hero when he kept out Georginio Wijnaldum's effort, allowing Gabriel Jesus to seal victory.

The office of the sport secretary of Association of Veterinary Medical Students, University of Ibadan (AVMS, UI) has compiled the names of potential athletes that will be participating in the inter-faculty sport competition which will commence on the 9th of August 2019. Sports featured in the inter-faculty competition are; volley ball, tennis, football, swimming, track and field events and some others.

There has been intensive trainings across all sports the AVMS is participating in, where football training has been mostly handled with seriousness, resilience and tenacity to help achieve a better stance in the 2019 inter-faculty competition. A high level of optimism coupled with courage as shown daily on the pitch by the AVMS football team, points an assurance of victory and as well to undo the history AVMS has always made in recent inter-faculty football matches as they are known to be losers at the very beginning of the tournament.

The last friendly match prior to the inter-faculty was played on Sunday, 4th August 2019. It was an impressive one as commended by the coach of the AVMS team. The match which was played between the AVMS team and an anonymous team ended 5-3 in favour of the AVMS team.

The AVM football team will be playing with 3 faculties in the group stage; which are the Faculties of Art, Science and Renewable Natural Resources. First match is against the Faculty of Renewable Natural Resources.
