21ST CENTURY LEARNING: STIMULANT OR DEPRESSANT
Education remains one of the fundamental factors of development as it has the potential of enriching people’s understanding of themselves and the world. It has the capacity to improve the quality of human life and leads to broad social benefits for individuals and society. The methodology of teaching is called Pedagogy. Are we truly getting mastery/ professionalism or just busy amassing information?
FIND YOUR PATH FORWARD
So, what is vet school like? It’s clearly a busy time for all future veterinarians. Not only will you be expected to absorb a lot of materials, but you’ll also need to develop practical skills that prepare you to practice veterinary medicine after graduating.
Key features of 21st Century teaching
- Building technological information and media influences
- Develop thinking skills
- Making use of project-based learning
- Using problem solving as a teaching tool
- Appropriate and detailed feedback and reflection
Attitude is a choice, don’t be pushed around by the fears in your mind, be led by the dreams in your heart. Instead of worrying about what you cannot control, shift your energy to what you can control. You can, you should and if you are brave enough, you will. It is only after you have stepped outside your comfort zone that you begin to change, grow and transform.
Veterinary classes cannot teach you enough as you ought to know. You need to embrace information technology, access e-libraries, and research on better vet practices outside the shores of this country. If you want to fly, you have to give up what weighs you down.
Perhaps, even if you plan to sell cement after school as many of our lecturers comment, display a high level of professionalism and competence learned in the profession. Swing the staff of office into politics and change the tides in favour of our beloved profession. I see many politicians rising.
If anyone thinks he knows anything, he does not know as he ought to.
Embrace 21st century tech-based teachings. Develop your human capital. You cannot be empowered beyond the level of your mental (thinking) capacity.
