It is no longer news that the university community has been bubbling with political campaigns and jingles. Different people have different reasons of voting different political aspirants into power. In order to know the mindset and opinion of students in this elite university, Vet News Organization (VNO) asked randomly selected vet students this question:
“What can make you vote someone as the president in the forthcoming Student Union elections?”

I am voting someone who has plans for University of Ibadan and someone who is active to suit that position. He should be brilliant, charismatic and ready to serve us uites.

I don’t think a veterinary student had been a President before, so I’ll like to have someone from our faculty as the president.

Any candidate that will truly be deserving of my vote must truly be learned and highly intellectual. His ability to draw the line not just between right and wrong, but also between right and almost right is too paramount a factor to be neglected. He must have the ability to communicate his vision in simple terms without any iota of ambiguity; big and complicated grammar isn't necessarily synonymous with an ideal leadership. He must be a very sincere person.

Well, if he speaks to me and I see sense in his speech, I will vote for him.

Hmmm, okay…whoever seeking a position of authority should possess wisdom, vast knowledge (in general fields of study & especially in sociology & political sciences). Discipline is also very important.

I will only cast my vote for a candidate for his personality. I mean, I will choose the candidate that doesn't have any negative mindset and would also ensure students have a strike-free semester despite the struggles to fight for the students.

I will vote for anyone my heart chooses. Being someone I know or someone from my constituency may be a plus.

I will vote based on leadership ambition and character. I may also ask people close to them to know their real character before giving them my vote.

I haven't concluded on whom to choose to run the task. I await their manifesto to see what each of them has in package for us.

My vote goes to a reliable personality. I will vote based on honesty. Most of these politicians will say good things before getting to offices but will go against their words after getting people’s votes. We should be wise before giving our votes out.
