TOGETHER WE CAN HELP OURSELVES
…advice to brilliant students and
their opposites
It is obvious that all of us cannot understand a particular topic at once, even this write-up, some people may read it twice before they understand the tenet of my premise while other people will just skim through it and digest everything imbibed therein. That is life, we are not created equally and this call for help from one another.
In a class, there will be some students that are brilliant enough that when in class, questions asked by the teacher can never turn to test or assignment. They are just blessed to an extent that when explaining to you, you feel like ''are we in the same class? Are you my mate or my senior? Were we taught by the same lecturer, under the same roof?'' In that same class are those striving to attain that position of being hailed for their academic excellence. If you fall in one of the aforementioned categories then my advice is strictly for you.
To my dear brilliant student that understands book than it has been written, that comprehends lectures than they have been delivered, it is perceived in your performance in class and remarks on your result that you are indeed brilliant. Please, what you understand share it with those struggling to conceive a page in 24 hours which may not be their fault but probably due to their poor backgrounds, lack of good explanations, or just that there is no one to lever them up.
The most intelligent student of our class, you can help provide solution to their problem by advising them, telling them the tactics you use, giving them your jottings that used to work for you before the exam (showing them answer after the exam will earn them nothing but dismay), showing them past questions that always help you to dismantle that hard topic when exam comes. It might be your encouraging word that will trigger them to read, tell them 'they can,' show them the way to pass and how you become an outstanding student.
In addition, always feel happy when teaching others what you have read & understand, refrain from a notion that they might score more than you, the more you give out knowledge the more your understanding increases. If it's 70% you are getting before try and share your knowledge to others and your performance may improve drastically to 100%, just try it!
Be reminded, if you yourself only pass, the impact of your sleepless night is only on your result and does not benefit others. Why can't you share it and make it history that can never be forgotten in lives of your colleagues. I wonder why you got 80 and your partner got 40, inquire his failure and help address it.
However, to my beloved average and below average students, why can't you move with the gurus and keep their company—the kind of company you keep will surely reflect on your performance—you know what is good, then pursue it. Never believe in the notion that some are naturally brilliant and are meant to be on top. Even if true, why not make your own brilliance synthetic and also be on top as well. Bottom is crowded my friend, I wish to see you at the top.
In conclusion, the brilliant ones should help those beside them, teach them the tactics involved in being the best. There is no joy or gain in seeing your colleagues or friends failing and you being on top. Let them see you in future and not only comment on your brilliance but also on the impact you made in their lives as well as how much you contributed to their success. Also to my lovely colleagues striving to attain the peak, you need not to do it alone, it may work but might be tedious. Move to those brilliant students in your class and you will be exposed to their secrets and tenets behind their brilliance.
