AVMS SENATE AND EXECUTIVE COUNCIL AT LOGGERHEADS WITH EACH OTHER AGAIN

Senate President, AVMS President, might not be on talking terms

On Tuesday the 26th of November, the Senate released the resolution of their meeting which was held that day, where it was stated that the AVMS Executive council had failed to pass both the NAVMS convention coming up the following week and the AVMS shirt sample through the house so that these could be vetoed before proceeding with their plans. The Senate firmly stated that they had no idea about the upcoming NAVMS convention and they would not be held accountable for the outcomes of the event.

Through various interviews with some members of the Senate, it has been revealed that things might not be going smoothly between the members of the AVMS Executive and the AVMS Senate. "This is not the first time they're refusing to pass certain things by us," Senator Akinniyi Tolu of DVM IV told VNO. "They didn't send a sample of the AVMS Dog Show shirt to us, and when we warned them against it, they proceeded to do the same thing about both the NAVMS convention and the AVMS shirt. They think of us as their enemies, and we are not. We are just bodies who should work together for the good of the organization."

This comment about the AVMS Executive being enemies with the Senators could be said as true, because one member of the AVMS Executive who prefers to remain unnamed stated emphatically to VNO. "I don't like the Senate. Even before I became an AVMS Executive, I've always disliked them."

"The issue is with the AVMS President," another Senate member commented. "I think he's the one that's involved in not passing things through the Senate. I believe he acts like a dictator, a Mugabe, and no other executive member can tell him otherwise when they think he's doing something wrong."

However, the AVMS Executive members largely disagree on this. "We are not scared of him," many of them said vehemently. "We just think that there might be a problem between the Senate President and the AVMS President. We think they might be in a quarrel." The PRO, Fasiku Oluwatobi Stephen however explained things further. "NAVMS Convention has always been a programme that falls largely onto the hands of the AVMS President and the General Secretary. They represent us at the national level, and I think it falls within their jurisdiction whether or not they decide to pass the bill through the Senate."

The Senate President, Oluwadare Franklyn denied allegations that he and the AVMS President were quarrelling. "All I know is that things are meant to be done in a certain way, and the AVMS Executive is not doing things the right way," he said.

AVMS PRO INVOLVED IN SERIOUS INJURY

The AVMS PRO, Fasiku Oluwatobi Stephen, was involved in a serious injury to his entire left arm on Sunday, 20th November, while pasting AVMS Dog Show in an effort to publicize the Dog Show through the University. Many people have commended the PRO for his exceptional dedication to his office, calling him "the best PRO to ever grace AVMS.

DOG SHOW 2019: A FAIR MIX OF GIANT ACHIEVEMENT AND LESSONS

Anybody that attended the Saturday Dog Show will just have to believe that the event was indeed a memorable one. With well more than 1000 audience and many dogs and dog owners gracing the event, vet students successfully attracted a great chunk of inhabitants of the university community and beyond to their event. With a succinct logistics team on ground to ensure the smoothness of the proceedings and a well-respected anchor to stick the audience on their seats, the attendees of the 2019 Dog Show invariably felt the existence of titans amongst pets.

According to a random interview conducted during the event, the organizing team of the 2019 Dog Show was really commended for the meritorious event and many respondents confessed that they never expected something that big.

While praises to Association of Veterinary Medical Students (AVMS) seem to overflow, according to an African adage, there is no way one can walk without his head moving, there is need to point out constructive observations for improvement in subsequent editions of the event.

Someone told someone: "do you know why I didn't win at the raffle draw?" "It's because there was no boerboel puppy!" While this conversation sounds funny and condemnably impracticable, there is a huge sense to obtain from it. Yes, it is good to make great promises, it is even better to be sure of the promises before administering them. And if unforeseen circumstances, which are normal life occurrences, prevail, there is need to properly inform your loyal audience that there will be a break of mutual agreement; there is no way the star prizes of American Eskimo and Boerboel puppies are similar to American Eskimo and GSD puppies! This proper re-information will go a long way to ensure people reverence and beshield the association's dignity.

Engaging DJ's in thorough bargaining and satisfying contract is exceedingly germane. There is this DJ issue that keeps recurring yearly in our Dog Shows and the adverse effect on audience is not farfetched. Therefore, the subsequent committees should work effectively to break this annual trend. The welfare of audience should also be improved. You are organizing a 5-hour long event and some people will have to stand on their heels all through, maybe the organizing veterinary students need to be reminded that humans don't have stay apparatuses!

Dog Show 2019 is unarguably the best most veterinary students have attended in their sojourn in the institution, but there is need for subsequent improvement because we are serving a noble profession. Indeed, Dog Show 2019 revealed titans amongst pets.
