The Hausa tribe in the Northern part of Nigeria is another culture rich people that is known to have been existing far back before the 14th century. The Hausa have settled in cities (of pre-European origin such as, Kano), towns and hamlets but the great majorityof the population is rural.
The Marriage Culture in the Hausa tribe of Nigeria:
When a Hausa man meets the lady he desires to marry, he goes to seek permission from her parents or guidance and by also making his intentions known to them. Then, the family of the bride goes to carry out thorough investigation to determine whether or not the man is suitable for their daughter. If he is approved by the family, howerever, there must be no form of physical contact or courting before the Marriage, although he's to a certain restricted extents allowed to see her not often.
The man then sends his family for a formal introduction with the bride's family: this is called "Gaisuwa" in Hausa. The bride's family request a bride price from the groom and also provide dowry for the bride, which is known as "Sadaki". After this, wedding date is chosen after the two parents must have agreed on a date.
The Hausa Marriage Culture to an extent also has some similarities with the Yoruba Marriage Culture. This could further imply that different ethnic groups have in a way interacted with one another either by trade or migration for settlement
