  ENTREPRENEURAL CORE

What we have always craved for and wanted while growing up from childhood is to have a better life. A life better than our parents, a life full of fun, happiness and pleasant experience. Every child had dreamt to always get satisfied of every want of life, satisfied to be able to get as much junks as possible, to be able to attain all measures and avenue for play and recreation, to be able to get hands on as much gaming gadgets as possible, craving to be able to compete with every other children in every necessities as toys and wears. The essence is the joy that comes with these things.

We were myopic and bewildered by our childish mind and thought, what else could we have craved for? But, adolescence and adulthood bestowed a new perception, a different but yet aggravated perception of measures of life. A life of exorbitance, enjoyment and lavishness. A life to host a job, earn enough money, buy a car and ride around town, an expensive lifestyle and eagerness to spend as much as available. It usually dwells more on riding an expensive and latest car in town, be very comfortable while money keeps coming in. Our level of covet is just inexhaustible. We want to be seen as big boys or girls with sophisticated accessories while living in the best of buildings. It’s all for the hype and prestige. So then, we started chasing after careers- while some want to be a doctor, a lawyer, an engineer, others prefer being an accountant, a politician, a celebrity and all the big guys of profession. We certainly just want the best.

Sooner or later, reality of life dawn on every one of us. Even with the so called best of professions, there are no Jobs anywhere in the country. So in essence, you finish your degree course after 4, 5 or 6 years of serious academic labour plus strike and even with a first class or second class honour, you get evolved into the labour market where there are no jobs and everyone just strives to get a balance. It then dawns that there are even many who are masters and even Phd holders in the same labour market with a very long  queue. The fact remains that there is a consistent turnout of graduates from tertiary institutions and the threshold keeps increasing.

Now, could there be a solution to this lingering problem. What can be done to savage the situation. I think it has become the responsibility of each individual to create an opportunity for themselves since the government has decided to look away. Have you heard of a graduate ending up as a danfo driver? Have you heard of a graduate getting a #10,000 salary as a private school or private company worker!

Have you heard of a graduate learning a second job or crafts as Tailoring, Hair styling, Make up styling, photography, carpentry & Furniture making? What about bricklaying, store keeping etc just to make ends meet and after all, they get a shop and start practising what they have learnt but the ones they learnt from school.

But really, does these make our dreams come true or does it even bring us closer to our dreams? Is this the life we had wanted or had in mind? Do these give a bit of the satisfaction we have ever craved for? Someone once told me that as graduate, you can own a pepper grinding machine and still live life and provide for your family. I have heard a university student communicating convincingly and boldly that all he needs is a #20,000 salary job after graduation to live a good life. Can these be true or just circumstances of societal frustrated goal and life? This is how terrible and rotten the system has grown and everybody just want to survive one way or the other and these are the realities. We got histories of this same country when a university student could choose where he wants to work as a penultimate and gets a brand new car on graduation. It became a country where only First class honour student has the Jobs but now nothing, nothing at all and things are getting worse by day. There are lots of indications that things have been deteriorating with time and there isn't a change in the tide.

A lot of people are suffering because they have not gotten it all right. If we imagine our educational qualification or privilege as a medium of profound literacy opening more opportunities of life to explore rather than just a professional qualification that provides us privilege for a job or position. It is still a fact that majority of people that takes up a job only ends up rather unsatisfied with their level of income and living a frustrated life as a result of excessive man power usage and extortion. But, what if we rather explore more opportunities of life owning to the well build intellectual capacity and stability we've acquired!

The only supposedly worthwhile and result orienting approach to the crisis that has grown wings to continually soar is actually for individuals to start creating opportunities for themselves. In a country as this where there are graduates without a solid availed structure for absorption either by government job creation or industrial establishments, then our skills and intellectualism has made it interesting realizing that identifying a major problem in the society and providing a profound and interesting solutions while gaining monetary value is all we've got. And surprisingly, this is purely entrepreneurship, Critical thinking and bringing something out of nothing. Starting to explore this fact is really a big deal and a means to the plight. Imagining finding a problem and securing a sustainable solution in a business oriented or entrepreneurial way! It is a big deal.

OK, let's consider these, let's hypothetically say there is high surge in prices of consumable fuel or peradventure a serious persistent scarcity of this product. Can considering an alternative, probably commercializing horses for transportation thereby side-lining consumable fuel consumption be a solution? Maybe. Or let's say, automobiles are seriously expensive or unaffordable. Could trading bicycle as an alternative be a solution to a general commoner? Maybe. Let's say more and more people are buying cars in a society or region, can opening an automobile repair be a nice idea or probably a vulcanising enterprise be a great means to an end? Probably. What if there is excess production of a product in an area with concurrent spoilage and cheap disposal. Can I think of taking up the responsibility of collection and transport to another location or area with little or scarce supply while making out some cool cash! Perhaps, let's say my area is densely populated with unusual traffic jam, would it be reasonable designing a Telemedicine structure to save people time, cost and stress of attending to some health issues right from home or work convenience and comfort while getting adequate medical attention be a great idea? There are inexhaustible opportunities but only to people who can identify them and bring something out of them. Thinking out of the box is the code. With increasing development and sophistication, there will always be another enormous problems popping up, waiting to be solved by the legend.

But then, I always ask myself if it is always enough to identify and translate solution to a problem. Can I be solving problems and still be poor or unproductive? The truth is that everyone is either solving a problem or creating one. I know bricklayers work so hard and they will always need to be refreshed with chilled drinks and water. I can decide to solve the problem by selling chilled drinks in the environment but, I may still remain poor, unsatisfied and even demoralized. Until I see an opportunity or problem as a means of business, until I bring business out of solving a problem, I may not be seeing a breakthrough. I could just have encompassed massive production of drinks and strategically opening up franchises to directly address all thirsty people around. That makes more sense right! The fact is that entrepreneurial journey is neither a rush journey nor a magic venture or strategy. It is usually a gradual thing its always worth it if rightly treaded. Every successful business today also had their little beginning.

When you empower yourself, you do not necessarily need any sarcastic government empowerment. It dwells more on intentional and strategical working to improving oneself. Even unlearned people make it so big out of business in this country. They make it and looks more worthwhile than a learned chasing after the shadows of jobs. The code and formula is all about solving the equation rightly.
