POEM

RED (INSPIRED BY THE MOVIE “HARRIET”)

Now that honor in truth abolished be

And many of coats their high horses ride

Remember the ones who whip stung as bee

Who after trade, were carried off like a bride

Shall I tell the history made to nought?

Of a she-Moses that arose to flee

Yet to lead, regardless of an onslaught

Her family and many more to glee

While greed driven, some, both white and caramel skin

Chose to climb ladder of bones to be rich

Yet others, disregarding skin colour

Choose to fight to fix this prevailing glitch

This, a proof that red sometimes can be weak

For blood will betray blood in selfish hour

As it does, even as we speak
