OUR HEALTH, REFLECTION OF OUR ACTION AND INACTION
If not this week, I am sure that you have seen a post recently, asking for financial assistance for someone with kidney or perhaps liver problems. All these predicaments are as a result of peoples actions and inactions. While acute diseases like headache, runny nose, cough or fever may not be totally obviated to occur. Chronic disease that may seriously affect us and leave us with lifetime scar can be prevented with our actions. Chronic diseases are those diseases that continue to occur or persist again and again for a long time. It is possible to prevent diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, chronic renal failure and chronic respiratory disease by taking some necessary actions.
In this article, let us discuss some of these actions that will in the long run help our health.
DIET AND NUTRITION:
Diabetes, Obesity, Atherosclerosis, and some cardiovascular diseases are associated with the kind of foods we consume. Paying good attention to our nutrition will help the body prevent and protect against those aforementioned diseases. You are what you eat. Eat properly and healthily. Take fruits, vegetables and run away from cholesterol and junks as these have little or no benefit to your body.
SEDENTARY HABIT:
Exercise nowadays is seen as the profession of body builders whereas everybody should exercise their body for a better health. Taking good diets helps to build immunity in order to fight against diseases associated with joints and fat build up. Exercise are not meant to be done outdoor alone; Push up, squats, abdominal crunches and step-up onto chair are exercises that can be done in the corner of your room to counter sedentary habit. Brisk walking is also recommended. Trek sometimes to burn unnecessary fat and work your joint out.
ALCOHOL AND SMOKING
Inscriptions on sachets of cigarette that smokers are liable to die young, is enough reason to abstain from it. Lung problems are often associated with smoking which if not quickly diagnosed and treated can lead to lifetime disease or death. Alcohol, just like smoking also has harmful effects in the body, especially if taken in excess. The best is to refrain from both alcohol and cigarette as their disadvantage outweighs their benefit.
SUBSTANCE ABUSES:
Substance abuse is taking of illegal drugs or the use of other substances for purpose other than those for which they are meant to be used in excessive amounts. Improper use of drugs or other substances can cause physical, emotional, social and health effects. Damage to some tissues and organs in the body are also common consequences of substance abuse.
STRESS:
Physical and mental stress should be properly managed so as to live a healthy life. Stress leads to production of hormone(cortisol) which suppresses the immunity that fight against infections and subsequently render the body susceptible to infections. As a student, stress is inevitable but managing the stress by getting enough rest after stress is a great action to combat harmful effect of stress. To have a wholesome and healthy life, try to prevent stress or perhaps manage it properly.
INDECENT USE OF SHARP OBJECT:
Not everyone that is HIV positive contracted it via sexual intercourse, some people are as a result of indecent use of sharp objects like blade, needle etc. sharp objects should be singly single for each person and should not be shared.
IRRATIONAL USE OF MEDICATIONS:
Research has shown that drug and other medications have the side effects. Drug can be used to cure diseases. However, if medications are used wrongly, their adverse effects will pave way for greater disease above the initial one you employed drugs to cure. Seek professional advice, go for doctors diagnosis before you take any drug and always avoid self-medications.
Your abnormal state of health is as a result of what you ought to do that you fail to do and/or what you should avoid that in fact you enjoy doing the most. great action that will enhance your wholesomeness should be done always while those that will jeopardize and endanger your well being should be execrated and condemned.
