THE BIGGEST LIAR IN AVMS UI, EXPOSED

THE BIGGEST LIAR IN AVMS UI, EXPOSED

From the moment veterinary medical students are indoctrinated into the clinical arm of the profession, they know who the chief small animal surgeon in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Ibadan, is. Most students regard him as a living legend, as he is the man known to perform the most impossible surgeries in the whole of Western Nigeria. He is famous for his spectacular dressing, sophisticated methods of teaching, and of course, his no-nonsense attitude in the surgical theatre.

Students of the clinical arm of veterinary medicine know that the chief small animal surgeon never, under any circumstances, allow students to phyisically participate in the surgeries. He performs even the most difficult surgeries almost single-handedly, apart from the mandated surgical exercises for final-year students. It is well known that he has been the chief surgeon for years in the faculty, and would continue to assume that role for years to come.

So, VNO was quite baffled when we learnt of a student in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Ibadan, who has spent months on social media taking credit for the chief surgeon’s surgeries. In most of his photos on Instagram, he has been known to credit himself as the chief surgeon, going as far as calling himself a registered veterinary doctor. This is not too surprising to VNO, as this student has been calling himself a doctor since his DVMII days. Of course, VNO assumed that this was all in jest, but apparently, many students of the University of Ibadan outside the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine actually regard this student as the best person to come out of the faculty in years.

The lies from this particular student are as many as they are baffling. He has told theatre arts students various lies from letting them know that he is doing his NYSC, to working in a private veterinary hospital, to even working in UCH. And of course, when any of the people he has lied to (mostly women) catch on to the fact that he is lying, he refuses to speak to them again.

VNO is left to wonder if this student lies only to impress women. But, the members of his class do not think so. “He is a pathological liar,” one other student of AVMS was heard to say. “He’s the kind of person that lies not because he has to, but because he cannot stop.”

It is not surprising that some of his classmates think like this, because they were the pioneer victims of his lies, going as far as their first-year days. This student was reported to have told them that he turned down a Harvard admission to register at University of Ibadan because he wanted to “help” them. He had also informed them that he was once a human medical student who dropped out in his fourth-year because he had visions of killing his own mother.

“I trusted him,” says a heartbroken student, who was the best student in their first-year. “I believed him when he told me end-of-module tests were irrelevant compared to the DVM exams. And so, I paid less attention to my tests, and that is the reason why I didn’t get any distinctions in preclinicals. I don’t even mind that he kept taking credit for my high scores back in our first semester in veterinary school, but I actually trusted him and he betrayed me.”

But this was not the only victim, however. Reports suggest that this student had also lied to DVMI students when he was in DVMII, telling them he was the best student in his class and teaching them anatomy. Of course, DVMI students were quick to believe him, up until they realized his “teachings” were often wrong and he had to resign from teaching them, clouded in shame. One of them still claims, up till today, that this student almost ruined his knowledge of anatomy because of how much he insisted he was right when he obviously wasn’t.

VNO, who has previously done an exposé on this student years ago, had thought all of this was in the past. Indeed, this student has gone on to be one of the most respected students in the faculty, with a lot of executive positions in and out of the faculty alike. He is regarded as a very versatile student, someone who participates in a little of everything. And so, VNO assumed that this was an infantile behavior that was now no more.

But, of course, as one of his classmates told us, the student is a pathological liar. He recently told some University of Ibadan students that he had been awarded a Cornell University Fellowship because of his prowess at completing a particularly difficult surgery some weeks ago.

VNO is particularly amused by this claim. First, all veterinary students know the real winner of the Cornell scholarship, another student. Also, this student has never in his life completed a surgery, and it is quite obvious he is taking the credit for the chief vet surgeon’s work. So, this student has managed to take credit for two people’s work in one sentence.

The real Cornell scholar expressed his bafflement to VNO. “I don’t understand,” he kept saying. “Why? That is really terrible of him.”

VNO shares the same sentiment. Little lies are all fine, but when you have the audacity to publicly claim to be the most successful surgeon in Western Nigeria on your social media feed, lie about getting admitted to multiple Ivy league universities, lie to students about their marks and ruin their chances of excelling, and scam your own classmates of their money, this has to be looked into.

It is worthy of note that he has not gotten any distinction yet, despite his claims of being the best student in his class. Of course, he has also claimed to have helped other students “get” their distinction. VNO is yet to be certain how exactly he achieved this feat.

This article covers only the top portion of his lies, of course, because a full article detailing all his lies would cover about a hundred pages. But we can only hope, as this student goes into the world, he learns to be a better person.
