DVM PART 2 AND 100 LEVEL RESULTS RELEASED.
All students of Veterinary Medicine in the University are well aware that at certain points in their journeys through vet school, their fates must be decided , whether to move forward or try again. For preliminary (100 level) students, this is determined by their overall performance in their one year of study. For other students, while the overall performance over the course of a number of semesters is influential, ultimately, the DVM parts (almighty) examinations are the major deciding factors. On Wednesday morning, 100 level and 400 level students of the Faculty had their results released.
The 400 level students in transiting from para-clinicals to clinicals wrote the DVM part 2 examination. This is often considered the most challenging examination in vet school. Let’s take a look at how it turned out. The class has a population of 94 students, 93 of which were examined while one student was absent. Of this 93, 66 passed , 25 students were referred ( to resit ) while 2 failed to repeat. Of those who passed, 10 students had distinctions with a total of 16 distinctions across the 5 subjects examined. In Veterinary Pharmacology,2 students had distinctions, 8 students in Veterinary Microbiology and 3 students in Veterinary Pathology. Distinctions were recorded in 4 of the 5 subjects on which the students were examined; no distinctions were recorded in Veterinary Parasitology.
The 100 level result was also released Wednesday morning. The total class population is 96. Of these, 64 passed while 32 failed to either withdraw from the faculty or the university. Only two students emerged with first class. The large number of students who could not make it to Vet school was lastly recorded in the 2016/2017 100 level students as 35 students were affected.
With the percentage of students who passed being about 66% and 70% for the 100level and 400 level classes respectively, the performance is at best average. This could be due to the online classes that were held at the beginning of the , which many students lamented over or perhaps other factors came into play.
To the students who passed, we say congratulations. To those who may have to retake one exam or the other, we wish the very best. Whatever the next step might be for each of these students, we hope they have the courage to forge ahead and do the best that they possibly can.
