Lecturers have 3 mandates; to teach, research and community service.
Without research, a lecturer cannot grow or be promoted. Yet, research gives birth to teaching and not the other way round.
He then went on as he spoke on how important mentorship is and how having a mentor in his career has greatly helped him to progress effectively. In choosing a mentor, it must be a well-respected, senior person in the desired field and the mentee in turn must be teachable and willing to learn, he said.

For, if the purpose of the students is to pass exam, they will cheat
