VOX POPULI: CLINICAL POSTING EXPERIENCE


The first three weeks of clinical posting/ward round for the 2021/2022 academic session was concluded last week. There are 8 clinics group(A-H) in total, each lasting for about three weeks. Students of DVM IV and V of the faculty of veterinary medicine were asked to share their experiences, likes and dislikes, advice at their first clinical posting.

-Clinics:Poultry

-Experience: of birds, Blood samples in poultry and Post mortem practicals.

- Likes: How the practicals are being conducted with good instructor

- Dislikes:The class was with cases which can be done on farm but were treated in class

- Best lecturer: Dr Esan

- Advice to subsequent groups: They should have mind to learn and avoid missing clinics.

Best lecturer: Female lecturer in poultry, I can't remember her name.

 - Advice to subsequent groups: Just be on your best behavior and try to learn as much as possible

Clinics:  Small Animal Clinics

Experience:  It was interesting and stressful. 

Likes:Meeting different  dogs and learning new stuff.

Dislikes:  Having to stay still 7pm

Best lecturer: I don't have.

Advice to subsequent groups: Be ready to endure evening clinics.

Clinics:  Small animal medicine 

Experience: very stressful and hard getting used to

Likes: seeing interesting cases like parvo

Dislikes: finishing late at night and my weekends being consumed

Best lecturer: Prof. Omobowale

 Advice to subsequent groups: Just make sure to balance your time with clinics and also to make good use of leisure or free periods

Name: Alabi Lukman Akinade

Level: 500

Clinics: Poultry and Avian Clinics

Experience: I have never been so proud of being a vet student than now.The experience with the clinician was just more than academic but also life changing.I am someone who doesn't have intent of practising before but I am now giving a second thought

Likes: Post Mortem analysis of mortality birds and Dr Anifowose's interpretation of fish cases.

Dislikes: The odour coming from  the carcass of the bird

Best lecturer: Dr Anifowose

Advice to subsequent groups: We should all please make the best use of the clinic because of the short duration

Any other comment: I wish we can have more academic time to clinics

Level: 500 Level

Clinics: Clinical Pathology

Experience: It was very chilled. Asides the nostalgic formalin smell that comes with the PM carcasses. 

Likes: The calmness of the department. Felt like a litigation team investigating causes of animal deaths 

Dislikes: Felt like I did not explore all that was to Clinical pathology. The lecturer was not present on most of my clinic days

Best lecturer: Dr Jakrikre

Advice to subsequent groups: Make the most of the time you have there. The days actually breeze by before you know it. Seek out the lecturer to get the most of your learning process. Never forget your gloves and nose mask.

Dislikes: Stressful and doesn't worth the time

Clinics: Public health and preventive medicine

Experience: Wonderful experience but can be stressful

Likes: The atmosphere and clinic is comfortable and not congested

Dislikes: Trying to meet up with 7am clinic on Fridays

Best lecturer:Professor Cadmus

Advice to subsequent groups: Obey their rules and always submit your assignments

Any other comment: Nil

Clinics: large animal

Experience: love the activities. Fun and interesting so far

Likes: contact with and handling animals.

Dislikes: oversabi.

Best lecturer: he he, they're all mostly chill.

Advice to subsequent groups: eat before class and have fun learning.

Any other comment: can't wait to graduate mehh.

Experience: It was a nice experience, learning about various aspects of public health from ways to preventing disease spread, to learning about zoonoses and meat inspection.

Likes: the teamwork in my group

Any other comment: I learnt a lot in this clinics, and I hope there'll be better improvements as regards everything concerning the health of the public.
