OPINION: HOLIDAYS ARE NOT NECESSARY

 HOLIDAYS? MAYBE NOT NECESSARY

The break and acceleration pedal of a vehicle, is to ensure its safe movement by halting and accelerating when needed. But the vehicle will be slowed down however when break is often applied than accelerator.

More holidays than it has ever happened in the academic calendar of students in the University of Ibadan. The school management, in a bid to minimize the effect of breaks, following instruction by the NUC to release University students during the 2023 general elections in February, sustained lectures with the virtual class approach.

Was it effective? Another story.

As though the ineffective 3 weeks of virtual lectures was not enough, several public holidays starting from the Easter break, Eid break and workers day break, also featured in the calendar truncating exercise.

To an extent, it looked like students were having fun with the incessant breaks. But the truth be told that break often applied on a moving vehicle, with or without reasons, reduces speed and limits distance to be covered with time.

Obviously, this is not a physics class.

Students in medical schools with volumes of uncovered lectures like Veterinary Medical students are having the hook about their neck as at how to go about pending lectures, posing threat at them, as they also have not studied much about the already held classes.

Which way?

Unfortunately, the semester is short, especially for Vet students.

Yet another break is on its way. May 29, the democracy day, when the president elect will be sworn in.
