HISTORY THEY SAY REPEATS ITSELF AS THE DEFENDING CHAMPIONS, 500LEVEL, LOST THE DEAN'S CUP YET AGAIN TO THE GRADUATING SET ON SUNDAY 25TH JUNE 2023.
About two sessions ago, the 300level team, who are now in 500level (defending champions), had it ill from the then 600level graduating set of 2019/2020, as they lost the final on penalties....
Yesterday, after a nil-nil draw in the first half, Aleem secured a penalty few minutes into the second half, which led the 600level through 1:0, but got leveled by Hessy, 500level striker, with a prolific and powerful turn, engaging the net with the ball. It was 1:1 draw until the end of the extra time.
As usual, penalty shootout began as Paul, 500level stepped forward to start the kick. Unfortunately for him, Mujeeb was able to see through his decision and the goal was prevented. Paul's kick remained the only penalty caught by Mujeeb, while the 600level had it all through the net against Taofeek. 5:4 it is.
Having gone through the penalty shootout, and satisfying every rule of the game, 600level, the graduating set, emerged the champions of the 2023 dean's cup 5:4. This must have been a good way to graduate.
Medals and Awards were presented by Prof. Oridupa of the department of Pharmacology and the Subdean Undergraduate, Dr. Ogundijo.
A controversial medal was presented to the 600level goal keeper, Mujeeb, naming him best keeper of the tournament, leaving out Taofeek, 500level goal keeper who never conceded any goal until the final game. This brought about reactions from his teammates, questioning the sport secretary and the leadership of the tournament. He has not been following this tournament, they said.
Hessy, 500level striker was awarded with the medal of the top scrorer of the tournament, having had 5goals in total.
Dissatisfaction was also shown towards the welfare and the health secretary as they have refused to play their role in the tournament. Many players complained about how poorly the health welfare was handled in the game. Players were injured and broken, but no medic to help. The sport secretary disappointed us; players reacted.
