Dr. Olaomo delivered an inspiring message to the incoming freshmen of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, emphasizing the immense worth of their chosen profession.
This message was delivered during the Freshers Welcome event organized by AVMS UI at the faculty auditorium on September 15, 2023.
Addressing the new students, Dr. Olaomo highlighted the intrinsic value of the veterinary profession, stating that it not only enhances intelligence but also holds substantial financial potential that may become more evident upon graduation. He also shared insights into various career avenues within the field.
"As a veterinarian, your career possibilities are wide-ranging, including private practice, research, academia, or government roles," he affirmed.
Supporting this viewpoint, Professor Adediran, a professor in Veterinary Parasitology, echoed the expansive nature of the profession and its boundless opportunities. She discussed how the profession can enhance one's intelligence, considering that the animals vets treat cannot communicate verbally, yet veterinarians find solutions to their issues.
'Don't merely pass through veterinary school; let the essence of veterinary medicine shape you,' she concluded.
In a subsequent presentation, Dr. Bayo Awoyele discussed the diverse sectors where veterinarians can excel. He encouraged the new students to envision their future practice, emphasizing the scarcity of veterinarians in the country.
Dr. Awoyele emphasized the vital roles veterinarians play in two critical areas of the economy: health and food production. He concluded by elevating the veterinary profession as the "king of professions" and urged students not to underestimate their significance.
During the event, class representative and assistant class representative were nominated and elected.
Dr. Anifowose, the Subdean undergraduate, also shared valuable advice with the students, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing academics above all other commitments.
