VOX POPULI: Enugu Chronicles: IVSA UNIBADAN's Adventure at the IVSA National Congress

Several veterinary medical students of University of Ibadan who are also IVSA-UNIBADAN members attended the recent annual Congress hosted by IVSA Nigeria at UNN, Enugu. Our correspondent interviewed them about their trip, the programme, and a comparison between UNN and UI in terms of structure and other notable features.

1. Saheed:

The trip was quite lengthy, lasting almost 13 hours with numerous checkpoints, possibly more than 90, before reaching our destination. The Congress was a fantastic experience, from the food to the environment, social night, cultural day, general assembly, animal welfare lecture, dinner and award, tour, and more. UI and UNN are similar but have their own unique characteristics. UNN has multiple campuses within the state, while UI is situated in one location. I'm grateful for being part of this prestigious association; it opened doors to opportunities and networking that all veterinary students should explore during their time on campus.

2. Mascot:

The trip was wonderful, and I enjoyed every aspect of the Congress. Comparing UI and UNN, UI is exceptional. Attending the Congress allows us to visit other schools, make friends, and build connections.

3. Bukunmi:

The trip was fun despite the long hours. We had a great time, and I particularly enjoyed the road trip to Unity Park in Enugu and the dinner. In terms of structure, UI buildings appear better maintained than UNN's older ones. Lastly, Nsukka is quite far, so be prepared for a long journey if you intend on visiting the place.

4. Hessy:

The trip to Enugu was stressful because of the distance, but the Congress was worthwhile, especially the unconventional vet session. UI's structure looks more beautiful compared to UNN's, though UNN has a larger landmass.

5. Shoge:

The trip allowed me to discover various states—Ondo, Edo, Delta, and Anambra—and meet students from diverse cultures and universities. The unconventional vet programme was eye-opening, showcasing the achievements of veterinary students beyond the field. I enjoyed the sports session and was happy that my team, Unique, came in first overall. UI excels in structure and facilities, but UNN has the upper hand in sports with more stadiums. Enugu offered a taste of its culture and delicious foods. I was able to take Okpa, Oha soup, and Ogbonna soup with Akpu.

6. Mikail:

My journey to Enugu was amazing, and the Congress offered a wide range of enjoyable activities ranging from social and cultural to an unconventional vet program; tour to Unity Park, sports, and dinner. Indeed, I got more than I bargained for. The trip allowed me to explore the South's culture and cuisine. UI's structure remains top-notch, although UNN boasts of having the largest library in West Africa.

7. ISA:

The trip was good, and the stopover for lunch was enjoyable. The unconventional vet programme was a highlight, and UI surpasses UNN in terms of structure; UI is better by far.

8. Tommy:

The journey was tiring, but the people I travelled with made it memorable. I enjoyed the unconventional vet programme and sports activities. While I couldn't explore UNN fully, UI appears to have better facilities. Enugu can be expensive compared to Ibadan.

9. Jesutobi:

The trip was long and tiring, but I enjoyed the Congress, especially the animal welfare programme, unconventional vet discussion, and sports activities. UI's structures are superior overall. The Congress was a success, with UI-FUNAAB students contributing significantly. Thanks to UNN for hosting.
