Ahsad Emerges as the Next AVMS UI President

Ahmed Saheed Olaide, popularly known as Ahsad DVMIV, has emerged as the next AVMS president in the recently concluded election exercise held on Friday, March 1st, 2024, at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, UI. He secured victory against his opponent, Akande Dotun Vincent DVM III, with 180 to 82 votes.


The results released by the IVMSEC chairperson, Taiwo Oluwatobiloba, confirmed his win, along with other executives. For the Health and Welfare Director position, Odunaike Faruq emerged victorious against Taiwo Abdul Basit with 147 to 112 votes. Olaniyi Maryam, a contestant for the post of Financial secretary, also won against her opponent, Adebusoye Gbenga, with 136 to 121 votes. Other positions that went unopposed and were won include Vice President, Onibon Aderinsola (253 votes), General Secretary, Akinleye Aishat (251 votes), Assistant general secretary, Akinpelu Timileyin (252 votes), Social Secretary, Ojelabi Oluwafimisogo(251 votes), and Sport Secretary, Olubiro Teslim (250 votes).


The election, which commenced at 11:00 am and concluded at 3:00 pm with two polling units, one at the faculty foyer for students from 300 to 600 levels and the other at the Vet PLT for 200-level students, proceeded peacefully and calmly, with voters seen casting their votes and departing without any incidents of malpractice.

Reflecting on the election and its outcome, Ahsad emphasized the increased participation and awareness among students, highlighting the need to focus on activities that bring students together. He expressed gratitude to the voters for their support and stated, "It is time to act and elevate our cherished association to a higher level."


Dotun could not respond to inquiries about the election outcome at the time of filling this report despite attempts to reach him via WhatsApp message and a phone call.
