Today, 29th July 2024, the Faculty of Veterinary medicine in conjunction with the Association of Veterinary Medical Students(AVMS) and the International Veterinary Students Association(IVSA) held the highly anticipated event, Dog show'24.
The event themed "Pawstatic Time: The Return of the Paws" was part of the activities lined up for the celebration of the 60th anniversary of Veterinary education in the University of Ibadan.
This year's event which held at the open field between the Faculty building and auditorium was hosted by Oyindamola Fawehinmi and Bella and had in attendance important dignitaries, several dog breeders and owners, students across the universities and brands ably represented.
Dignitaries who graced the occasion include the host of the event who doubles as the Dean of the faculty, Prof. Olufunke Ola-Davies, the patron of AVMS, Prof. Matthew Oyeyemi, Dr. Ajetumobi, Dr. Jarikre, Dr. Foluso among many others with Dr. Alabi from the Canine Owners and Breeders Association(COBA) serving as the judge for the evening.
The Dean in her opening remarks, welcomed all professors and lecturers on the high table and appreciated them for taking time out to grace the occasion.
In her words "It gives me great pleasure to be here to open this august event. Congratulations to the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, AVMS, IVSA, Dog breeders and everyone here present for this event. Have a pleasant time ahead"
The main event kicked off afterwards with each dog present paraded to the cheers and joy of the spectators and afterwards proceeded to the high table to be judged.
The Chief Judge, Dr. Alabi of COBA highlighted the criteria for judging. He said "What we're looking out for include the physical appearance and presentation, relationship of the dog with the owner, level of training acquired and general temperament"
At the end of the event, Kimora, a boerbel emerged the overall winner of Dog show'24 with Ayra starr coming second place and Enzo, a German shepherd filling the third slot.
The Dean presented the awards and certificate of participation to the dog owners.
The raffle draw was a major highlight of the event. Prizes won includes bottles and mugs, dog muzzle, dog leash, food items, a standing fan, a hot plate, an imported dog cage and a puppy.
Favour Chris, a preliminary student of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine went home with the grand price - a puppy.
Dr. Ajetumobi, a lecturer of the Department of Veterinary Medicine in the closing remarks appreciated all and sundry who graced the occasion and wished everyone safe trip back to their destination.
