Today, 5th July, 2024, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Ibadan held her annual fresher's welcome and labcoat ceremony.
The event themed “Navigating Veterinary Education in Nigeria: Challenges and Opportunities” held at the Faculty Auditorium by 2:30pm.
The Dean of the Faculty who doubles as the Chief host in her opening remarks extended her warm welcome to the freshmen for making it to the University of Ibadan and consequently, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. In the same vein, she congratulated the 200level students for qualifying to continue their Veterinary Medicine.
She led the procession of their cloaking by adorning the best student in the class with others following suit. She noted that we serve a noble profession and expects the students to conduct themselves in a manner worthy of nobility.
The first keynote speaker, Dr Segun Makanjuola, CEO, GlobalWyse Limited, in his address expounded the subject matter "discipline and time management" as a major factor in sojourning Vet education successfully.
He urged the students to equip themselves with all necessary skills in the journey in order to be job creators, not seekers as the Veterinary world is one laden with diverse opportunities.
Prof James Olopade, a Professor of Veterinary Anatomy and an accomplished Neuroscientist in his own admonition urged the students to see the journey as a "war zone" that requires maximum focus and determination. In his words "The journey is a rigorous one, but the rigours from the training makes you versatile and that's what stands you out as a Veterinarian".
In an ever dynamic world, he emphasized the need to be constantly updated about developments in the profession in order to stay relevant.
Other speakers at the event include Prof. A. B Ayinmode, a professor of Veterinary Parasitology and Entomology. He urged the students to prioritize hard work and maintain maximum focus.
The Sub-Dean Undergraduate, Dr. Anifowose in his own address to the freshmen highlighted the basic requirements to cross over to Vet school. He also extended a hand of appreciation to the AVMS executives for a job well done in making the event a successful one.
