The football stars of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine will be kicking off their SEALS tournament journey with an opening day fixture against the defending champions, Philosophy, come this Friday, 26th July, 2024 by 4:30pm at the old SUB pitch.
This announcement was made today at the press conference and pot draw held at the SRC chambers, Kunle Adepeju Building, which had in attendance sports secretaries and representatives across each departments.
The draw saw Vet. Medicine placed in Group A alongside the defending champions, Philosophy with other slots filled by Elect Elect and Statistics department.
Traditionally, the defending champions plays the opening fixture and this time around, with Vet. Medicine.
Vet. Medicine would be hoping to do better and avoid a repeat of last year's disappointing outing as they failed to make it out of the group stage.
SOME FUN FACTS:
1. Orodin and Teslim are the only two Vet footballers to have played all the editions of the SEALS cup since its reintroduction.
2. At Seals cup'22 against Ipe, Oyepitan Caleb scored an own goal,then went ahead to equalize for Vet with a corner, then lost the first penalty at the penalty shootout.
3. Vet qualified for Seals Cup' 22 round of 16 without scoring a single goal (the only team to do so).
