Tribute to Dr. Alaka: A Pathologist Par Excellence


The Department of Veterinary Pathology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Ibadan, organized a tribute on Wednesday, December 19, 2024, to honor one of their lecturers who passed away on November 14, 2024.

The event, held at the faculty auditorium, was attended by faculty staff, students, family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased.


In his speech, Dr. Jarikre, Head of the Department of Pathology, described Dr. Alaka as someone who showed love to all and was deeply committed to teaching and impacting the lives of others. "This is a difficult and painful time for us. We extend our condolences to one another and pray for the fortitude to bear this loss," he concluded.

Professor Olufunke Ola-Davies, the Dean of the Faculty, expressed her gratitude to the department for organizing the tribute and acknowledged everyone who has supported the faculty during this time. She described Dr. Alaka as a brilliant and loving individual. "We will surely miss him. May his soul rest in peace," she said.


The DVM IV and DVM V classes also paid tribute, remembering Dr. Alaka as a kind, jovial, diligent, and intellectual personality who shared his knowledge with a great sense of humor. "Dr. Alaka was a source of guidance, encouragement, and unflinching support to many," said DVM IV.

Other speakers who praised Dr. Alaka's remarkable life included Professor Olayinka Ishola, Professor Oyeduntan Adediran, Dr. Adediran, Dr. Fagbohun, and many others, who described him as a rare gem—exceptionally brilliant and a distinguished intellect.

The event concluded with remarks from Dr. Alaka’s sons, Tayo, Seyi, and Deji, who expressed their gratitude to everyone present for the tribute.

Dr. Alaka was a senior lecturer in the Department of Veterinary Pathology, known for his diligence and jovial nature. Born on September 8, 1967, he passed away on November 14, 2024. He was the BGS of his set in 1990, a distinguished pathologist, and a pastor. May his soul rest in perfect peace.
