Handover Ceremony: Senate holds final meeting as newly elected executives take oath of office

Yesterday, 20th March, 2025, the Team Synergy administration led by Comrade Ahmed Saheed was dissolved with the newly elected executives taking over the reins of affairs of the Association of Veterinary Medical Students(AVMSUI)

The event which held alongside the last Senate meeting of the academic session held at the 500level class and had in attendance Senators across each class constituency, the outgoing excos and the newly elected executives.

Starting with committee reports, the house received and ratified the report of the various head of committees; Audit committee, Public lecture committee, Literary and Debate, Academic committed and the Editorial Board with the reports of the executive body taken afterwards.

The outgoing President, Comrade Saheed in his final report highlighted the achievements and challenges of his administration. In his words "We've been able to further project the image and increase the engagement and participation of AVMSUI even to the national level".

Some of the achievements as listed include: Securing accomodation for vet students, repair of toilets and refurbishing of classes, resuscitating the annual Dog show, the Dr. Chris and Dr. Tasbol essay competition, Bursary for indigent students, Scholarship and thesis writing seminar to help final year students with their projects.

Addressing the challenges, he acknowledged the time constraint due to the vet syllabus, balancing duties with academics, access to facilities and low engagement of students in AVMS activities.

He urged the next tenure to learn efficient time management, delegate tasks, build good rapport with the Faculty management and ensure student welfare.

The Sub-Dean undergraduate, Dr. Olayinka Anifowose in his own address commended the executive and the legislative arm for the remarkable achievements recorded during their administration. he lauded their teamwork and relationship with members of the Faculty management. He urged the new executives to raise the bar higher, focus on substantial projects and dedicate themselves to their duties. in his words "Leadership is Sacrifice"

The event furthered with the presentation of certificates and awards to the members of the body. The executive body was then dissolved and the newly elected executives sworn in. The outgoing Senate President, Senator Mikail admistered the oath of office. He urged them to abide by their constitutional duties and commit themselves to it.

Fasanya Mikail in his outgoing speech as the Senate President, highlighted the ups and downs of his tenure, with the amendment of the constitution a memorable feat for him. He expressed his appreciation for his team for making the tenure a seamless one. He prayed for continual relevance and wish them success as they continue their sojourn on campus. 

The senate house was consequently dissolved with Senator Aderinto Sakirat of DVM V constituency elected by majority of votes as the new Senate President for the 2024/2025 academic session.
