X, formerly known as Twitter went agog when a user claimed that fact 100 men could take down a gorilla if they intended to.
The internet had plenty to say about this. Here’s what you need to know about gorillas and this fantasy fight:
Gorillas are herbivorous, predominantly ground-dwelling
great apes that inhabit the tropical forests of equatorial Africa. They share
98.3% of their genetic code with humans, making them our closest cousins after
chimpanzees and bonobos. The largest of the great apes, gorillas are stocky
animals with broad chests and shoulders, large and human-like.
An adult male silverback gorilla weighs between 300 and 500
pounds (136–227 kg) and is incredibly strong. Estimates suggest a gorilla is
between 4 to 9 times stronger than a trained human male. According to Nyungwe
Forest National Park.org, a silverback gorilla is stronger than 20 adult human
beings combined.
Gorillas have a well-developed and sophisticated social
structure, living in family groups typically ranging from 5-10 individuals but
can vary as much as 2-50 individual, with the leader being called a silverback.
The gorilla is a peaceful and unaggressive species, typically shy in nature unless it is unduly disturbed.
One punch is probably an automatic concussion from a gorilla. Punching the gorilla wouldn’t do much damage because the ape’s skin and skull are thicker than any human’s. And if a gorilla decides to bite you in a fight, I hope you have life insurance. According to LeoZoo.org, a gorilla has the fifth-most powerful bite in the animal kingdom. Their bite force is measured at 1300 psi.
So I leave it to you, If 100 men were to fight a single
gorilla, what are their chances of winning?
