Award of Excellence: Ahmed Olaide clinches WVA international award



Ahmed Saheed Olaide, a recent graduate of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine serving as the immediate past president of the Association of Veterinary Medical Students (AVMSUI) and a former president of the International  Veterinary Students Association (IVSA) has clinched the prestigious World Veterinary Association (WVA) Global Veterinary Award, earning him the international recognition as the Veterinary Student of the Year 2025.

Olaide, emerged winner of the highly competitive award, which aims to celebrate human excellence and worthy impact in the field of veterinary medicine around the globe.

This announcement was made by the Executive Manager of the World Veterinary Association, Ms. Magda Lourenço, via an official email to the awardee.

According to her, the award includes a cash prize of $5000 and other gifts in recognition of Olaide's outstanding contributions and leadership in the Veterinary field.

He is expected to receive the award at the World Veterinary Association Congress (WVAC) 2025/AVMA Convention, scheduled to take place later in July in Washington, DC, USA.

During the course of his studentship, he attained several honours including the WVA/MSD scholarship award 2024, Morris foundation veterinary research scholar 2024, CEVA animal welfare grant 2024, Berenice Douglas and Suzanne Williams scholarship 2024, DAD scholarship 2024 amongst others.

He is a co-founder of Vet bridge network, a mentorship group for veterinary students and Director of projects for Softpaw animal foundation amongst many other leadership roles.

He also won awards both from AVMS and IVSA in recognition of his versatility,  tenacity, and exemplary leadership plus excellence.
