UI Athletes qualify for World University Games
On 6th of April 2025, UI athletes joined their colleagues from across the country at the University of Jos, Plateau to try their shot at a qualification Spot for the Rhine-Rhur World University Games scheduled to hold in Germany from the 16th of July to 27th of July 2025.
The University of Ibadan had 10 representatives for the FISU trials including Akinnirianye Oluwasemilore from the department of Arts and Social Science education representing the school in athletics, Gbenro Obaloluwa from the Department of Law, representing in the swimming event and Akinyemi Gloria from the department of Human Kinetics also representing in swimming. Other athletes who participated in the FISU trials are:

Adesina Daniel, Sociology- Judo
Oladele Ibrahim, Agronomy- Athletics
Ibrahim Ayomide, Psychology – Table Tennis
Alade Elizabeth, Health Education – Badminton
Oparinde Faith, Veterinary Medicine- Taekwondo
Merotiwon Olumide, Philosophy- Taekwondo
Three UI athletes secured a qualification Spot for the World University Games. Gbenro Obaloluwa and Akinyemi Gloria qualified in the swimming category.
Copa del Rey: Jules Kounde, the unlikely hero as Barça win El Clásico in extra-time to claim Spanish Cup
Barcelona, continued their wonderful campaign by winning their 32nd Copa del Rey title thanks to an epic 3-2 comeback victory over Real Madrid in extra-time on Saturday's final at the Estadio La Cartuja in Seville. After dominating the first halfand taking the lead, the Blaugrana were overwhelmed in the second half and found themselves down 2-1 after 85 minutes, but found a way to equalize and force extra-time where Jules Kounde scored the winning goal to give Barca the victory.
Premier League: In England, Liverpool matched Man Utd's record of being English champions 20 times as Arne Slot leads club to glory in his debut season. Sunday’s 5-1 victory against Tottenham means Liverpool moved out of reach of their nearest rivals on the table, Arsenal, with four matches still to play.
NPFL: Remo Stars have emerged champions of the 2024/2025
Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
Daniel Ogunmodede’s side claimed their maiden title
following a 1-0 victory over Niger Tornadoes at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne,
on Sunday. With this achievement, Remo Stars became the first Southwest club to
win the Nigerian top-flight league since 1991.
In a statement issued by the
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga,
Tinubu praised the team’s resilience, perseverance, and commitment to
excellence, noting that their triumph comes just four years after their
promotion to Nigeria’s top football division.
The President expressed optimism that Remo Stars’ journey would inspire other Nigerian clubs to pursue success with renewed determination and optimism.
