Let’s be honest, being a vet student in our prestigious university is like running a marathon in slippers. Every day, you’re sprinting from 8 a.m. lectures to 5 p.m. labs, avoiding surprise tests, and trying not to sleep off on a cadaver. Who has time to slay? But what if I told you there’s one tiny thing you can wear that’ll make you look like you actually have your life together — even when you don’t? Enter the brooch. Yes, sis. The humble brooch is back, and it’s here to save us all from looking like exam-season zombies.
Brooch, but Make it Fashion
You know those cute pins our mums used to wear to weddings? The ones we thought were “too extra”? Surprise, they’re now the ultimate vet-school style hack. You don’t need to wear a blazer or dress like you’re heading to the Senate. Just slap a pretty brooch on your shirt, gown, or even your lab coat, and boom — instant elevation.
Wearing a simple Ankara gown for Friday class? Add a gold leaf brooch. Rocking your usual black skirt and white shirt? Pin a butterfly on your collar. Suddenly, you don’t look like you cried over pathology last night (even though you definitely did).
Some of us are out here looking like tired baby goats in vet anatomy class, but our brooch is shining like our future. One lecturer even asked me, “What’s that?” I said, “Hope.” Because that’s all we have left at this point.
Where Are You Wearing Yours?
On your lab coat: Who says you can’t be stylish while diagnosing diseases in dogs?

On your chest pocket: Perfect distraction from the fact that you haven’t ironed that shirt since resumption.
On your tie: if you are going for that baddie school girl look. Believe me a brooch makes everything right.
Brooches can be worn on a belt, to adorn a scarf, to tush up a simple bland gown.
There are even brooches shaped like stethoscopes, syringes, and tiny animals. If that’s not vet student couture, I don’t know what is.
Comfort Is Still Key
We know the goal isn’t to enter the runway, you just want to survive the day without collapsing. The good thing is, brooches don’t demand any extra effort. They don’t care if you’re wearing slippers or sneakers or if you haven’t done laundry in two weeks. They’re loyal like that.
Final Word
Brooches are like that one friend who hypes you even when you’re clearly stressed. They’re affordable, stylish, and they scream “I may be exhausted, but I’m still that girl.” So while we wait for the stress of DVM to finish us, let’s at least look like we have our act together — with brooches leading the charge.
