New Senators Sworn In, Principal Officers Elected as Senate Activities Kick Off

Yesterday, 2nd May, 2025, the by-elections to vacant senatorial positions across constituency was held. the voting which was conducted virtually started at 1pm and lasted for an hour.

The result was announced by the acting chairman of IVMSEC, Adeosun Moses in an official broadcast on WhatsApp.

Simultaneously, the senate arm held her first sitting today. The meeting chaired by the new Senate President, Senator Aderinto Shakirah held at the 500-level c

lass had in attendance senators across all constituencies, members of committees and congressmen.

The day’s proceedings began in earnest with the official swearing-in of newly elected senators, followed by in-house elections to fill key leadership roles within the Senate.


Following nominations and voting, the Senate elected the following as her principal officers:

Senator Arojo Oluwademilade (DVM II) – Chief Whip

Senator Oladejo Ifeoluwa (DVM II) – Information Officer

Senator Sekinat Omobolanle (DVM I) – Clerk

The election for Deputy Senate President proved more competitive, conducted through a secret ballot. Senator Taiwo Abdulbasit Jimoh (DVM IV) emerged victorious with 11 votes, defeating Senator Ridwan Oguntoye (DVM IV), who received 3 votes.

In addition, the Social Secretary was officially inaugurated, and several executive officers presented their proposed budgets. These included the Executive President, Health and Welfare Director, Sports Secretary, and General Secretary.
