UI Students’ Union Holds Town Hall to Address Student Concerns

On Wednesday, May 1, the University of Ibadan Students’ Union Executive Council convened a town hall meeting aimed at addressing growing concerns within the student body. The meeting brought together around 150 student leaders from various departments and faculties.

The session, which ran from 2:10 PM to 5:40 PM, provided a platform for student representatives to highlight the specific issues affecting their respective constituencies. “This open forum fostered a better understanding of the diverse challenges across our campus,” the Union stated in a circular.

The union president, Covenant Odedele used the opportunity to highlight ongoing initiatives and outline the Union’s approach to engaging the University Management on key student issues. He also provided updates on recent developments across the institution.

At the end of the meeting, three key resolutions were adopted:

The Union will compile all raised concerns and formally present them to the University Management for prompt action.

Departmental and Faculty Presidents from constituencies facing fee discrepancies are to submit a detailed breakdown of school fees paid by their students, which will support the Union’s discussions with the management.

Depending on the outcome of ongoing consultations, a Student Congress may be convened on or before Saturday, May 10.

The Students’ Union expressed gratitude for the dedication of student leaders in attendance, stating, “Your input is vital as we work together to resolve the challenges facing our student community.
