The leadership baton of the Association of Veterinary Medical Students, University of Ibadan (AVMS UI), officially changed hands yesterday, January 13, 2026. At the Senate meeting convened at the 500-level classroom, the tenure of the 2024/2025 executive and legislative arms was formally brought to a close.
The event marked the dissolution of the 61st Executive Council, led by Olojede Victor, and the swearing-in of the 62nd Executive Council under the leadership of Odunaike Faruk Olukolade. It also featured the inauguration of the newly elected senators, with AbdulBasit Jimoh, a 500l student emerging as the mew Senate president.
In his farewell addres, the outgoing president, Olojede Victor, reflected on the conclusion of the administration. Describing his tenure as a chapter built on collaboration, challenges, and unwavering commitment, Olojede highlighted the administration's focus on their "Progress Agenda," which aimed to balance academic excellence with student welfare and professional exposure.
"Leadership is not about occupying an office; it is about serving with integrity and leaving a place better than you met it," Olojede stated. He expressed gratitude to the faculty management, the legislative council, and the student body for trusting his team with the mandate to steer the association. He urged students to extend the same support to the new leaders.
The incoming president, Odunaike Faruk, in his own address to students, commended the outgoing executives for ensuring a smooth, transparent, and orderly handover process.
He acknowledged the context and challenges that shaped the previous tenure, noting that his administration intends to carry forward the lessons learned.
Together with his executives, he promised a tenure defined by transparent and people-centered leadership.
As the excitement of the transition settles, the focus now shifts to the implementation of the new executive council's promises.
With the administration promising to prioritize the interests of the students through unity and excellence, we all look forward to an academic session where student service remains the primary objective of the new executives.
