UI’SU Secures Waiver on Mandatory Jaja Card Upload, Releases Revised 2025/2026 Accommodation Schedule

The University of Ibadan Students’ Union (UI’SU) has successfully negotiated a revision to the 2025/2026 accommodation application process, effectively making the upload of Jaja Health Cards optional for returning students following widespread agitation.

This intervention addresses a directive issued by the Dean of Students on Monday, February 9, 2026, which initially mandated that returning students complete an online University Health Service (UHS) Requisite Form. The original memo required the upload of a scanned Jaja card within a tight 72-hour window (February 9–11) to secure accommodation, triggering immediate concerns among the student body regarding lost cards, accessibility for those off-campus, and the short notice.

In a statement released via its official X handle at 9:10 PM on Monday, the UI’SU leadership confirmed convening an emergency stakeholder meeting with University Management to address five core issues: the mandatory card upload, the status of students without physical cards, UHS registration discrepancies, the Hall Accommodation Form requirement, and late communication.

Following these deliberations, several resolutions were announced. Students are no longer required to upload a physical image of their Jaja card, though providing the Jaja Registration Number remains mandatory. Students currently without their physical Jaja ID cards may now proceed with their applications. Additionally, the requirement to obtain a Hall Accommodation Form has been scrapped, and the UHS Requisite Form applies strictly to returning students; fresh students are exempted from this step.

The Union reiterated the confirmed schedule for the exercise. Submission of Jaja registration numbers for all students is scheduled for February 9 to 11.

The application and payment portal opens for fresh students from February 12 to 19, and for returning students from February 13 to 20. Room allocation for fresh and final-year students is set for February 21, while allocation for other returning students will occur on February 26.

In addition to addressing on-campus housing, the UI’SU stated it is actively engaging with University Management and private hostel owners. The goal is to ensure transparency, flexibility, and student-friendly pricing for off-campus accommodation to support students unable to secure space within the halls of residence.
