Netflix Announces Sequel to “K-Pop Demon Hunters

Netflix has officially confirmed that a sequel to the hit animated movie K-Pop Demon Hunters is now in development, following the massive success of the original film released in June 2025. The announcement was made on March 12, 2026, after the movie became one of the streaming platform’s biggest global hits.

The sequel will again be directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, the creators behind the first film. Netflix also confirmed that the project will be part of a new multi-year creative partnership with the directors to expand the animated universe.

The first K-Pop Demon Hunters movie tells the story of a fictional K-pop girl group called HUNTR/X, made up of three singers; Rumi, Mira, and Zoey. While performing as global pop stars, the group secretly protects the world from supernatural demons using the power of music.

The animated film became a global phenomenon after its release on Netflix, breaking streaming records and attracting millions of viewers worldwide. In the first six months alone, the film reportedly reached over 482 million views, making it one of the most watched titles on the platform.

The film also earned several major awards and nominations, including recognition at the Golden Globes, Critics Choice Awards, and the Academy Awards.

One of the reasons for the movie’s popularity is its powerful soundtrack. A standout moment from the film features a song with the line “Now I’m shining…”, which quickly became popular on social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

Many people who had never watched the animation still recognized the song because it was widely used in short videos, edits, and fan covers online. This helped the movie reach not only animation lovers but also general music fans.

The soundtrack also included other hit songs like “Golden,” performed by EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami, which won major music awards and received several Grammy nominations. And the K-pop make group from the movie, Saja boys, tipped the music charts for weeks which was expected as I, myself, was enthralled by the song, ‘Idol’.

Despite the movie’s success, many viewers felt that the ending of the first film was not fully satisfying. In the final scenes, the character Rumi’s secret identity is revealed during a concert, and her undeveloped love story with Jinu was cut short because of his death.

The ending left fans with many unanswered questions about what would happen next to the characters and whether Jinu is actually dead.

With the newly announced sequel fans believe the story will finally continue and provide answers to the mysteries left at the end of the first film.

The upcoming movie is expected to expand the world of K-Pop Demon Hunters, explore the characters’ journeys further, and possibly redeem the emotional ending that left audiences unsatisfied.

Although Netflix has not yet announced an official release date, early reports suggest the sequel could arrive later in the decade due to the complex animation process required for the film.

For many fans, however, the announcement alone is enough. The return of the demon-hunting K-pop stars means the music, action, and viral songs—like the famous “Golden” may soon return to screens and social media once again.
