UI Matriculates 4,430 Freshers for 2025/26 Academic Session

 

The University of Ibadan held its matriculation ceremony for the 2025/2026 academic session on Wednesday, 11 March 2026, at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan.

The event commenced with the entrance of the principal officers of the university, followed by the singing of the National Anthem and the University Anthem. The ceremony was officially opened at 9:57 a.m. by the Registrar.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kayode Adebowale, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Admin) Prof. P. O. Olapegba , delivered his address virtually. He congratulated the matriculants and emphasised that the University of Ibadan remains the best university in Nigeria.

He revealed that a total of 46,916 candidates applied to the University of Ibadan as their first choice institution. Out of this number, 4,171 students were admitted through UTME while 259 gained admission through Direct Entry, bringing the total number of admitted students to 4,430.

The Vice-Chancellor also provided a breakdown of admissions across faculties, noting that 80 students were admitted into the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.

Dr Olusola Ayoola, founder of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, Nigeria{RAIN} while delivering the matriculation lecture, shared insights into his journey and recounted experiences while studying in UI. 

He urged the students to work hard and be diligent in their studies. In his words "Providence brought you here, but diligence will keep you here.”
