Burna Boy and Wizkid Go to War After DJ Tunez Gets Attacked at Lagos Club

What started as a night of music at one of Lagos's most exclusive celebrity hangouts has exploded into the biggest feud in Nigerian entertainment, drawing in two of Africa's biggest superstars and triggering a nationwide ban on one of them.

The incident occurred on the night of Monday, April 7, at "Obi's House," a weekly celebrity event hosted by DJ Obi, a gathering known for attracting A-list entertainers that reportedly descended into chaos after tensions flared between both camps.

Sources differ on the exact trigger: some claim DJ Tunez played an unreleased track by Burna Boy without authorisation, while others allege he repeatedly prioritised Wizkid's music, ignoring Burna Boy's requests. Witnesses said Burna Boy approached the DJ booth to address the situation, leading to a heated verbal exchange. DJ Tunez was alleged to have responded dismissively, escalating tensions. Moments later, the situation turned physical, with videos showing a chaotic scuffle involving several individuals and security personnel struggling to restore order.

DJ Tunez broke his silence on social media shortly after the incident, confirming he had been physically attacked by Burna Boy, stating that the attack came from behind and that he had been outnumbered, though he asserted that he defended himself.

Following the fight, the Nigerian DJ Association, of which DJ Tunez is a member, banned all members from playing Burna Boy's music nationwide, stating: "Our team will carry out a proper investigation on the incident that happened to one of our own, DJ Tunez. We urge the DJs in Nigeria as a whole to be vigilant and be respectful to any individual male or female artist in their various events."

Hours after the altercation, Burna Boy posted a video dancing to "Money Constant," altering the lyrics to mock DJ Tunez. Nigerian music star Wizkid then weighed in on his official X account, delivering a sharp jibe that further intensified tensions — taking a swipe at Burna Boy without naming him directly, referencing his past association with convicted American music executive Sean 'Diddy' Combs.

Burna Boy admitted to giving "two slaps" during the altercation, refuting claims that ten men were involved. He further explained that his actions were partly motivated by a desire to draw out Wizkid, expecting him to intervene personally rather than simply responding online.

In a viral video, Burna Boy challenged Wizkid to a physical fight, declaring in Pidgin: "Wizkid come go dey tweet. Na internet their own power dey. We na real life our own power dey. I thought DJ Tunez go call his oga, and his oga go do something or send people but na tweet Wizkid con dey tweet."

The development has intensified conversations within the Afrobeats scene, drawing attention to underlying rivalries and the role of fan-driven narratives in escalating tensions. Ironically, both Wizkid and Burna Boy are scheduled to perform at the 2026 edition of Afro Nation Portugal, further fuelling public interest in the fallout. The duo had previously collaborated on tracks including "Ginger" in 2021 and "B. D'OR" in 2022.

The Nigerian music industry now watches anxiously to see whether two of its greatest stars will resolve their feud or let it spill onto the Afro Nation stage before the year is out.
